Tanks controlled by ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, the new US military project

The US Army wants to develop a technology that would allow armored tanks to detect and automatically target enemies.

ATLAS (Advanced Targeting and Lethality Automated System) would give a tank the opportunity to do everything it takes to detect and target an enemy, with the exception of "pushing the trigger" - a human operator will be the one to shoot, writes Futurism.

"We seem to be heading for an arms race where the current ban on full fatal autonomy will be abolished when politically convenient," said Stuart Russell of the University of California Berkeley.

From the point of view of the army, ATLAS will make combat capability more efficient. "It is important that you can even cut fractions of a second at any time," said Paul Scharre of the US military.
